There is this new thing a good friend of mine, Ponnhas been writing about and declaring she’s gotten over 700 hits in a day from it so I figured I’d give you guys the heads up.
Sk-rt is a more feminine version of Digg. They have a lot of bugs they have to fix but it is promising. The best part is it doesn’t take as many diggs to get on the front page since they are still new. And for moms there is Babblz
A couple of other draw backs are the fact that they don’t have a love it button you can place on your website. I believe thats coming soon. The owner seems to be nice based on the interactions Ponn has told me about and they receive feedback well. So make sure you let them know what you want from the site to make it the best it can be. In the short time even though I believe the domain was established based on the fact that I was told it only launched a short while ago and it already has a page rank, so I believe it launched after the update. (a little tid bit for you) However you still will get page rank if they have the no follow turned off. I didn’t see any mention of that on the site so I believe they need to notify someone of that.
You also have to wait to get your story approved. This is annoying so I hope they turn this option off. But check them out if only to get on the front page and gain more readers!

Eh…
June 20, 2007 @ 8:31 amThanks for the link Amanda! I think sk-rt is a great site, and different enough from Babblz that they should do well in their niches. Babblz is focusing on parenting, although most of the posts are “mommy-related”. Hopefully the new color scheme coming soon will encourage more dads to post.
We do have a vote button that can inserted into your posts. Details are on our blog. Right now we have about 40 blogs using it, and so far, so good :-).
June 20, 2007 @ 10:41 amCan you tell me why I’d want this over Digg, which is much more popular?
June 20, 2007 @ 1:51 pmTeryn,
Digg is more aimed at Tech, Political, and Science News. There was no place for parent bloggers to promote their stories in a similar fashion. I’m sure that the sk-rt creators had the same frustration. For us at Babblz, it’s all about promoting and sharing stories and creating a sense of community among the mommy and daddy bloggers.
Thanks,

finally something for a woman !
June 21, 2007 @ 9:56 amThanks for the sk*rt shout out. And yes, we created sk*rt because we really love the concept of Digg (brilliant Kevin Rose), we just don’t always love the content…or, at least, there was more we wanted to see listed. Sk*rt readers are fantastic (and growing like crazy…we have almost 2000 registered users in two weeks and visitor numbers are off the charts)…so the content is really getting good. Come on over and join the conversation…submit something. The more brilliant minds, the better.
June 23, 2007 @ 10:22 pmThanks for mentioning these! I haven’t heard of either of them and will have to check them out!
